Summer Reading Coming Soon!

Oceans of Possibilities

The Thorntown Public Library will begin its summer reading program for children on Monday, June 6th. This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.” Kids can stop in the library to register and pick up a summer reading log. Babies and preschool age children will be given the option to complete a list of fun and educational activities. Parents/Caregivers are also eligible to win some great prizes just for encouraging their children to participate! Kids in the program are asked to keep track of the minutes they read and can earn incentive prizes for reading each week. A free book and the chance to enter our Money Machine will also be given to each child that reaches their summer goal. The program runs until July 16th.

We are also excited to bring other fun entertainment experiences to the community during this time. Our kickoff program arrives on June 7th at 2:00 with Indiana’s #1 magician, Daniel Lusk. If you love magic, you will not want to miss this show! Do you want to get wet? Everyone loves “The Water Show.” This show combines water and a little bit of magic to provide lots of excitement! Other fun programs this summer will include Indiana Jim’s Reptile Experience, the Pirate Show, the Chemistry Is a Blast Show and a Foam Party! We are also bringing back our Color Run, and the Carnival (with lots of games, prizes, the barrel train and glitter tattoos). Super Summer Bingo, the Slime Factory, Kasey the Fire Dog, and a Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop are scheduled for July. Registration is required for the Foam Party and the Noah’s Ark Workshop, so make sure you sign up as soon as possible if you are interested in those two programs.

Pick up an event calendar at the library for all of the details or visit our online calendar. All library programs are FREE (except the Noah’s Ark Animal Workshop – there is a $10 fee) and open to anyone that wishes to participate.

Thorntown Public Library accepts Evergreen library cards, although you do not need a card to join in on the fun! Reading during the summer break helps children improve the reading skills they have developed during the school year. All families should take advantage of the summer reading program to help their children continue to be engaged and excited about learning.
